Special Needs Furniture

The skills of a furniture maker and designer specialising in individual projects are frequently called upon in the area of "Special Needs Furniture".
Speech therapists and doctors at the Liverpool Royal University Hospital who were involved in research into dysphagia in stroke patients experienced problems accommodating their patients in the X-ray machine. We were able to design a chair specifically for this project, and there are now many hospitals throughout the U.K. using this equipment.
Another challenge was the specification for a dining table for the use of elderly people in wheelchairs. Large enough to seat eight, yet not so big as to take up a lot of room. It also needed to be an attractive piece of furniture, and provide versatile access.

This work is very rewarding, as the results of careful thought and good design can make a great difference to the quality of life.
We are always willing to discuss projects and detailed requirements.
